HISTORY
Adana Science High School(AFL) has served as a well-established educational institute since it was founded.It was built as an orphanage by Cemal Pasha(one of the former governers of the city) in 1909 in an area of 40 acres in order to host the Armenian orphans.The campus has gone through some changes and addititons over the years and finally has been started to be used as Adana Science High School since September 2nd 1987. Through years,the school has also served as Girls Boarding School,Primary School, Teachers'College,Girls Teachers College,Boys Teachers College ,Educational Institute and Adana High School.
The original structure is commonly called Stone Building (Taş Bina) because it was build by using cut stones as a part of local architecture.
The campus ,which was away from the settlement at the time it was built ,now stands in a central location in the city center.In 2018 ,local authorities decided to shelve the building after an original renovation because the infrastructure of the Stone Building couldn't fulfil the requirements of the pupils and staff anymore.The school temporarily moved to another campus for a year in 2019 and some new modern structures were built in the original school area.The original Stone Building is still going through some reinforcement and restoration activities.The new campus contains a school building with 24 classrooms,science laboratories,administrative offices,a computer lab and a library.The school has 3 administrators,31 teachers besides 13 assistant personnels as , office holders, a nurse ,day and night security guards and kitchen workers.The school hosts about 200 pupils who come from different parts of Turkey in its dormitory .
EDUCATION
The school provides a four year training as a part of the compulsary education in Turkey after the pupils take a national selection test .There are about 480 selected pupils at school.As one can make an inference by looking at its name ,the school teaches a curriculum mainly based on subjects like Maths,Physics,Chemistry and Biology besides classes like English,German,History,Literature,Geography and Arts. Adana Science High School has been the most prosperous school of the region since it was founded and has embraced bright students not only from Adana but also from other cities of Turkey.The graduates of the school often attends to some best universities of Turkey and the world.The champions of university admision exams in 1998 and 2007 were from Adana Science High Scool.The graduates often choose to study in the fields of Medicine and Engineering .
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
The school is not only focused on academic succes.At school,the pupils can discover or upskill their talents in the artistic fields of music,literature,poetry and drama.Other than the school choir,there are two music bands at school.A school magazine, called "Aflname" has been published by the pupils fort he last 18 years and is followed with interest.The school often joins regional and national tournaments with its football,basketball,volleyball,table tennis,chess,badminton and orienteering teams most of which contain certified athletes.
ACADEMIC AND SCIENTIFIC CONTESTS
ADANA High School regularly joins in the activities,workshops and contests held by the Ministery of Science Industry and Technology and TÜBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey ) in local,regional and national levels and shows great achievements.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The alumnis of the school feel proud of being a part of this school and follow a genuine tradition.The alumni association sincerely and actively keep serving their school.Every year ,some alumnis are invited to school tos hare their experiences with the pupils as a part an activity called "Carreer Days".Another activity in which the alumnis,veteran teachers and staff and pupils meet is called "Kebab Günü".
